Curatorial Statement

The Error of Prometheus approaches classical mythology as a contemporary language for desire, ambition and contradiction. Daniel Dacio’s figures do not illustrate myth; they return it to the present, where beauty, knowledge and self-understanding remain unstable forms of power.

From Prometheus to Narcissus, Pygmalion, Icarus and Pandora, the collection explores the human impulse to create, idealise and exceed its own limits. These works do not offer resolution. They hold the viewer inside the ambiguity of knowledge: what elevates us, what deceives us and what remains unresolved.

About Daniel Dacio

A painter of myth, body and unstable beauty.

Daniel Dacio’s painting begins with beauty, but it does not end there. His figures appear suspended between apparition and memory, as if seen through water: bodies emerge, dissolve, reflect and return to the surface with unsettling precision.

His work is immediately seductive, yet never decorative. Beneath the elegance of the image lies a persistent search for the more difficult truths of human nature: desire, fragility, ambition, self-deception and the longing to transcend our own limits.

Dacio studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid and was later admitted as a copyist at the Museo Nacional del Prado, where he studied the techniques of the Old Masters directly from the original paintings. This classical foundation does not lead his work toward nostalgia. It gives him the discipline to make myth feel contemporary, physical and alive.

His practice extends across painting, woodcut, engraving, egg tempera, mural painting, stucco, illustration and storyboard. That breadth gives his images an unusual command of surface, movement and narrative. Each figure seems both staged and discovered; theatrical and intimate; mythic and profoundly human.

In The Error of Prometheus, Dacio turns classical mythology into a language of revelation. Prometheus, Narcissus, Medusa, Pandora, Eros and the Moirai are not distant legends, but living structures of contradiction. Through them, beauty becomes a threshold, myth becomes knowledge, and the human body becomes the place where mystery, desire, memory and consequence are made visible.
